CHA 2014 A Recap: Part 2

Today I'm finishing up my CHA 2014 Recap. When I look back through these photos, it's no wonder I felt a little like a deer in the headlights. With all the amazing products at the show, and people I wanted to meet sometimes I wandered up and down the aisles without really "seeing" everything. It can be more than a little overwhelming to take in all the loveliness of the new releases.

To read more about this wild adventure, see the first blog post HERE.

Days 4 through 5 were more of the same: demoing in the booths, meeting up with co-workers, chatting with new and old friends, and checking out all the loveliness from the booths. Here are some of my favorite things I saw at the show.

Lawn Fawn

Jenny Holiday for Melissa Frances

Little B Punches

 Queen and Co. Bags, Straws, and etc.

Imaginisce

The Twinery

Dies from Taylored Expressions

Chic Tags

Amy Tangerine Plus One Collection

Maya Road

Pebbles

Pink Paislee

New Stencils (stencils were everywhere)

Day 6 was take down. It took us about two hours to take down the entire booth. I don't think we've ever moved that quickly before. It was a good thing too because that night I presented at "Play" the Big Picture event hosted by Stacy Julian. I was exhausted and ready for bed, but it was fun to see everyone so excited about what the industry introduced at the show. I took about 10 minutes to also film a live segment with Wendy Smedley for those attending the event at home.

Day 7 brought me back home to a very content and happy family. I'm very grateful that my husband is so good with the kids. He's a great dad and is definitely the "fun parent" in our house, but he also always makes sure the house is clean and chores are done. I couldn't ask for a more amazing guy!

It was a fabulous trip, and I made some great contacts and can't wait to share some of my upcoming opportunities. I'm currently busily working on one of those opportunities right now and hope to share the concept soon!

After looking through the photos, do you see anything that you like? What do you "need" to get your hands on? I think my list is even longer than before I went to the show. And my poor little pocket book gave a little sigh when it saw all the happy things I want to buy.

Make It Meaningful Bonus Project: Valentine Frame

Make It Meaningful Bonus Project:

Have you been watching my weekly 2Peas "Make It Meaningful" scrapbooking videos? If so, you'll know that this year I'm focusing on recording more meaningful memories. There are lots of ways to make memories meaningful. One is to decorate your home with seasonal items made just by YOU!

Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I wanted something pretty and frilly to display in my home. I used the "Head Over Heels" collection from Echo Park Paper once more like I did for this last project HERE for the basic foundational pieces for this project.

You'll start to notice this year some additional textural elements to my projects. I have completely fallen in love with the "metallic" trend so I've gathered everything gold and silver that I can get my little hands on. You'll see these elements pop up in lots of my projects so keep an eye out!

To Make This Project:

Supplies:
* Echo Park Paper "Head Over Heels" Collection
* Ornate White Frame
* Grey Washi Tape
* Gold Embossing Powder
* Versamark Stamping Ink
* Silhouette Die Cut Machine
* Feather Die Cut Shapes
* White Photo Corners
* White Doily
* White Crochet Twine
* Gold Tissue Paper
* Fringe Scissors

You can search for many of these items HERE in the 2Peas store.

Instructions:
This project is all about layering. Just a few simple banner shapes layered on top of one another make this project come together quickly. What makes this project special, however, are the elements of gold. For the bottom border, I cut a rectangle from gold tissue paper and then cut the bottom edge with fringe scissors (thanks for those, Martha Stewart). For the feathers, I die cut them from white cardstock and then covered them with clear Versamark stamping ink. I then embossed them with gold embossing powder for an additional "WOW" factor. Look for ways to incorporate some shine into your projects.

I love handmade items. Whenever I pass something in my home that either I or someone I care about has made, it makes me smile. It also reminds me of all the fun I had of creating the project. Sometimes what makes an item meaningful is the joy in the creative process. And that is just as important as the end result.

CHA 2014 A Recap: Part 1

If you've worked in any kind of crafting business, you know when the Craft and Hobby Association shows rolls around. It's the kind of show that has you working on Christmas items in July, and summer projects in December. It's a whirlwind of planning, preparing, and creativity right up to the day of the show. And typically I spend the week of the show at home recovering and working on anything but CHA business, while the company(ies) I work for are busy showcasing their latest products.

This year, however, I was blessed enough to get to go with Echo Park Paper in order to demo both with Silhouette and Sizzix (two of our brand partners). I was excited to see old friends, check out all the new releases, and hang with my office peeps whom I happen to adore.

The first day of the show was booth set up. My job? Painting. Yep. I got to paint our cherished black bookcase a lovely shade of Tiffany Blue. I already told Andrea that I might have to confiscate the shelf once it gets back home is so deliciously blue. Andrea is our booth guru and manages how the booth is set up and how products are displayed. She really knows her stuff, and we just do what she tells us. She's more like a mom and makes sure we have snacks, water, and comfortable shoes throughout the show. It's amazing to watch her work.

Day 2 was more booth set-up. Here's where we get really serious and how the products are displayed is the theme of the day. Andrea has everything well planned out and by mid-afternoon we were done. During set-up, I taught a quick round-robin class for Sizzix using our new die cuts. The students moved quickly from station to station with the likes of Lori Whitlock, Tim Holtz, Stephanie Barnard, and more. Then Sizzix graciously provided us with the most delicious lunch (probably the most healthy thing I ate at the show). Afterwards we showcased our products to the Sizzix distributors. It was a full day, but was a great opportunity to share our new "Basics" die cut line, which Andrea also designed (that girl really does everything). On this night we went to dinner as a company. Being an early bird, I was tired and ready for bed but the food was absolutely delicious.

Day 3 was actually Day 1 of the show. I tried to walk a part of the show, but really only got about four booths for all the talking and chatting with industry friends. It's just so exciting to see your friends doing amazing things like design a line, or get a book deal, or work out an upcoming article with a magazine. I also had the opportunity to meet people I love and admire; as well as, see products up close that I've been pinning for weeks on Pinterest HERE.

 Here are a few of the things I spotted during the first full day of the show, that you might want to see:

EP TV: Layering a Card

I wanted to share my latest Echo Park Paper video with you (for those of you patiently waiting for me to do something on my personal Youtube channel). In this video I created the following card:

Make It Meaningful #3: Me & You (capturing touch/affection)

Welcome back to another "Make It Meaningful" video hosted by Two Peas in a Bucket. This week all of the Garden projects focus on capturing special "moments." For me, I wanted to discuss ways to capture affection in your photographs and then how to include them on your layouts. Often affection is shown by touch. It can be a handshake, a hug, a high five, or even holding hands. These are the kinds of photos that I love including in my layouts.

Make It Meaningful #3: Capturing Touch

Here is the layout that I created this week. You can see I selected a photo of my two kids holding hands at Disneyland. This is one of my favorite photos from the trip as she was 16 at the time and he was 10. I will always cherish their love for one another.

You can watch the entire start-to-finish process HERE on the Two Peas Youtube channel or below:

Here are some close-up photos of the layout, which shows how I kept the general design simple but incorporated some large, dynamic items by using an accordion folded circle die cut (see video for how I create them):

You can find additional information about this project HERE on Two Peas.
Challenge:

This week's challenge is to first capture a relationship by photographing touch in some manner. It can be a high five, a hug, holding hands, or anything where one or more subject is in contact with another person. Then use those photos to create a layout. Make sure you share why that photo has meaning to you! Upload your project to the correct challenge gallery by next Thursday in order to qualify for the drawing. All challenge entries will due by January

Bonus Project:

This week's bonus project is to simply take the accordion folded circles I showed you how to create in the video and  turn them into magnets. Then you can display all of your favorite "affection/touch" photos as you'd like.

Look for a new video coming next week! Next week we'll focus on capturing emotions in a mini album. You won't want to miss this project!

Below are the products I used (or you could use) to recreate this layout. Look for creative ways to incorporate gold. You can use any stamp shapes for the embossing project. If an item is sold out, see if you have something similar in your stash or search for something a little different in the Two Peas store.
